Lawrence died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the Columbus Community Hospital.
Lawrence Philip Gronenthal was born August 6, 1912 in rural Platte Center, Nebraska to John J. and Emma (Schroeder) Gronenthal. He graduated from Platte Center in 1929. On November 21, 1938 Lawrence was united in marriage to Mary Ann Fischer at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Newport, Kentucky. Lawrence farmed in the Platte Center area his entire life. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, directed and sang in the choir, church council and was past chairman of the Platte County Community College. He was an avid baseball and softball fan and played the accordion for over 70 years. He also played a variety of other instruments. Lawrence enjoyed travelling and going to the casinos.
