LaVerne Joseph Torczon, age 79, died April 18th, 2015 at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln, surrounded by his family.
LaVerne Torczon was born on January 1st, 1936 in Platte Center, Nebraska to Joseph and Veronica (Jarosz) Torczon. He was raised in Platte Center and graduated in 1953 from Platte Center H.S. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1957. While attending the University, he was a 3 year football letterman and was the recipient of the Tom Novak award, All Big Seven, and All Academic American. On August 9th 1958, he was united in marriage to Lu Foltz at St. Anthonys Church in rural Platte Center. He entered the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Holiberd, MD. In 1960, LaVerne was drafted into the AFL and played seven seasons with the Buffalo Bills, New York Titans/Jets and Miami Dolphins. He was inducted into the University of Nebraska Hall of fame in 1987 and the Nebraska High School Hall of Fame in 2012. Laverne started his Real Estate profession in 1967, and worked with Weerts Boetcher and Becher Curry. He started his Appraisal business in 1981 and retired in 2006.
LaVerne was a charter member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, was on the St. Isidore School Board, a member of the Holy Name Society, member of the Knights of Columbus, the Scotus Booster Club, a charter member of Elks Country Club and Cactus Club, VFW #3704, Nebraska Beef Club and Nebraska Athletic Club.
His leisure activities included traveling with his wife, playing cards, golfing, attending Husker games, his children and grandchildrens activities, and spending time at the lake. He loved to spoil and spend time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had many of his prayers answered by being a supporter of St. Jude. Mostly he will be remembered by his big heart, his generosity and his passion for sports. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather and will be missed by many.

Brother: Lambert (Barb) Torczon of Columbus
Brother: Clarence (Bonnie) Torczon of Platte Center
Sister: Joan (Paul) Duesman of Humphrey
Brother: Denis (Lugene) Torczon of Humphrey
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
