Larry Rogers, age 79, died Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Memorial services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation is 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Born on April 20, 1946, in McCook, Nebraska, Larry was the son of Charlotte (Wilcox) and George Buxton. Charlotte then married Clarence (Bud) Rogers, who adopted Larry at a young age.

Larry attended grade school at District 31 near McCook and graduated from McCook High School. He attended McCook Jr College and graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

After college, Larry worked as a bank examiner for the FDIC for eight years. He examined many banks in Nebraska and western Iowa. During that time, Larry attended and taught FDIC training classes in Washington, D.C.

Following his time with the FDIC, Larry started a career in banking, working at several banks, including Osmond State Bank, First National Bank of Fullerton, Fremont County Savings Bank in Sidney, Iowa, and First Bank of Utica, Nebraska. Larry loved being a small-town banker and being involved in the communities. Larry retired from banking in 2019.

In 1985, Larry married Diane (Peschel), and together they welcomed their son, Riley Rogers. Larry was also the father of Sean Rogers from a previous marriage.

After retirement, Larry and Diane settled in Duncan Lakes, Nebraska. Larry enjoyed fishing, golfing, cheering on Nebraska Husker sports, the Atlanta Braves, and the Kansas City Chiefs. He especially enjoyed attending his sons’ sporting events during their youth.

Larry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Bessie Wilcox; his mother, Charlotte Rogers; his father, Clarence (Bud) Rogers; his birth father, George Buxton; and his father and mother-in-law, Frank and Mary Ann Peschel.

Survivors include wife, Diane Rogers; sons Riley Rogers (Chelsea Kallenbach) and Sean (Tina) Rogers; grandson Derrek Rogers; and step-granddaughter Jordan and her family. Larry is also survived by his siblings: Sharon Lang, Ron (Jean) Rogers, Bonnie Sue Schumaker, Bill (Deb) Rogers, Gloria (Steve) Richman, Mark (Stephanie) Rogers, June (Bob) Hall, Jon Rogers; Aunt Betty Jussel, and Aunt Doris Ruppert; his South Carolina half-sisters, Sandy, Robin, and Sheryl; in-laws Jim (Beth) Peschel, Monica (Gary) Geistwhite, Peg (Randy) Boice and Tom Peschel; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
