Larry L. Redel, age 76, died Friday August 23, 2024, at the Columbus Community Hospital.
Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2024, at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Cory Burma officiating. Visitation is Thursday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue Friday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Following the funeral service, Military Honors will be conducted at the church by The American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard.
Interment in the Omaha National Cemetery is Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
Memorials may be designated to The American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard, American Legion Baseball, Peace Lutheran Church.
Larry L. Redel was born June 11, 1948, to John and Delores (Meyer) Redel in Winside, NE. He graduated from Winside High School in 1966. Following his graduation, Larry attended the Lincoln School of Commerce where he completed his associate degree. Shortly after, he was drafted into the US Army.
On April 11, 1970, Larry was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Katherine Jacobsen, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winside.
Following his time in the service, the couple moved for Larry's job until settling in Columbus. Larry then started working for First National Bank, a job he enjoyed for 38 years until his retirement in 2016.
Larry was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and The American Legion Hartman Post 84, where he enjoyed serving on several committees and was the Post Financial Officer. He served 22 years on the honor guard, rendering honors for 658 veterans.
Larry enjoyed baseball, golfing, boating, and refinishing antique furniture. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and being with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
