Larry Koza, 76, of Silver Creek died Thursday, April 13, 2006 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Services are 11:00 am Tuesday, April 18 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek. Visitation is on Monday from 5-7 pm at St. Lawrence Church with a Vigil service at 7 pm, also at the church. Visitation continues Tuesday morning from 10:00 am until service time at the church. Interment is in the St. Lawrence Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post #263. Memorials are suggested to the family wishes.
Lawrence Koza was born June 10, 1929 in Fullerton to Charles and Mary (Novacek) Koza. He grew up on a farm near Fullerton and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1945. He served in the US Navy from Dec. 28, 1950 until Oct. 28, 1954 as a Class Petty Officer aboard the USS Helena and USS Missouri. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. Larry married Delores "Dee" Cutsor on May 12, 1956 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek. He moved to Omaha where he worked for Swift and Company. He moved to Silver Creek in 1959 where he owned and operated the grocery store until 1965. From 1965 until 1982, Larry farmed and was a livestock buyer. From 1982 until his retirement in 1995, Larry owned and operated Kozy's Bar. Larry enjoyed his family, grandchildren, and being outdoors. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, the American Legion, and the VFW.
