Kinyon "Ted" Brooks of Columbus died Saturday, June 22, 2013 at his home in rural Columbus.

Kinyon "Ted" Brooks was born July 29, 1924 in Montpelier, VT to Kinyon H. & Rose (Cook) Brooks. Ted grew up in Albion, NY and graduated from Albion High School in 1941 where he was a four year four letter winner in baseball, football, track and basketball. In his senior year he was selected as the Best Athlete of the Year. During these years, Ted would spend his summers in the Adirondack Mountains camping, hunting, and fishing. Ted began his college education at Purdue University before going in to the US Army during World War II. After his discharge he returned to Purdue where in 1946 he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. On February 26, 1949 he was united in marriage to Patricia Simpson in Many, LA. Ted held various engineering and operating positions with subsidiaries of Standard Oil in New Jersey, Indiana, Michigan, Oklahoma, North Dakota, New Mexico, and Nebraska. They moved to Columbus in 1957. Ted went to work for Nebraska Public Power for 8 years in engineering positions in the system planning and protection departments. In 1964, he was employed by Nebraska Electric G & T as an engineer and in January of 1976 was named General Manager. He retired in 1984. Ted held membership in the Institutes of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and the Power Engineering Society. He was the Director of the Midwest Electric Consumers Association and of the Nebraska Power Association. Ted also served as the G & T representative on the NPPD Wholesale Customer Committee, Missouri Basin Systems Group Planning Committee, and as Secretary/Treasurer of the Nebraska Power Industry Committee along with various other engineering and study sub-committees. Ted and Pat loved to golf with friends and to travel (especially to Husker Bowl games). Following Pats death, Ted continued to enjoy golfing, working in his garden, and chopping wood. He loved spending time with his family and many friends. Ted was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, the American Legion, and was a lifetime member of the Purdue Alumni Association.

He is preceded in death by:
