Kenneth J. Urkoski, age 85, of rural Columbus, died Monday, June 20, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.
Kenneth Joseph Urkoski was born February 14th 1931 to Joseph Urkoski and Anna Zoucha at his grandfathers farm in Tarnov, Nebraska.
He attended District 73 School and graduated from Monroe High School in 1948. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 and spent most of his active duty in Madison, Wisconsin where he met and married the love of his life, Doris Anderson. They were married in St. Raphael Cathedral on April, 16th 1955.
To their union three children were born: Rick, Steve and Debra.
He was a 50 year member of the American Legion. He was also a member of Monroe Rural fireboard. He spent a number of years involved with Boy Scouts and Silver Spurs Horse Club. He was a member of St. Isidore Church and Holy Name Society.
Ken was a life long avid hunter and outdoorsman. He and Doris traveled the world together. He was a longtime Husker fan, holding season ticket for over 25 years. He farmed south of Monroe for 60 plus years.
He is survived by his wife Doris, son Rick (Sue) Urkoski, Steve (Lisa Waldo) Urkoski, Debra (Ross) Karabel. Sister Virginia Sobczak, brother in-law Pete Anderson, sister in-law Kay Anderson.
Grandchildren Troy (Tara Hopkins) Gaston, Nicole (John) Galliano, Megan (Craig) Palik, Shayla (Josh Rappold) Urkoski, Kyle (Laura) Urkoski, Derek Urkoski, Shelby Urkoski.
9 great grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many close and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Joe, mother Anna, mother and father in-law Gertrude and Hans Anderson, brother in-laws Lavern Anderson, sister in-law Joyce Anderson.
