Kenneth died Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the Brookestone Acres is Columbus.
Kenneth J. Torczon was born October 2, 1924 in Columbus, Nebraska to Frank and Veronica (Smagacz) Torczon. He graduated from Duncan High School in May of 1941. Kenneth served in the U.S. Army during WWII from June 1943 - January 1946. Following his discharge Kenneth attended UNL and joined the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity on May 17, 1948. He graduated on June 19, 1949 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. On May 8, 1952 he was united in marriage to Helen Staroscik at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus. The couple lived in Columbus where Ken continued to farm west of Duncan and was also an instructor with the Nebraska Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association. Kenneth was a past member of the Columbus School Board where he served as president. Ken was a member of the community leaders responsible for founding Platte Junior College in 1969. He served on various state and local Ag boards. Ken was inducted into the Platte County Agricultural Society Hall of Fame on August 14, 1982 and the Central Community College Foundation Hall of Fame on October 25, 1995. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, Hartman Post #84 American Legion, V.F.W. #3704 and the Elks Country Club. Ken was an avid Nebraska Husker football fan and enjoyed discussing politics, horse racing and farming.
