Kathryn Ann "Kathy" Cahill joined family and friends in heaven on Thursday, October 26, 2023.
Funeral services are 2:00 pm Thursday, November 2 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Genoa. Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 pm Wednesday at the McKown-Rice Funeral Home in Genoa and continues on Thursday from 1:00 pm until service time at the Church.
Kathy was born July 16, 1943 in St. Edward, NE to Dan and Wilma (Divis) Cahill. The family soon moved to Clarks. Following her graduation from Clarks High School she attended Wayne St. University with majors in Education and Family and Consumer Science. She accepted her first teaching position in Walthill followed by the next 47 years in the Arlington Public School system. During this time she also pursued a Masters Degree in Computer Science and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. Following her retirement from the school system, she worked as the secretary for Arlington Community Church where she had many rewarding experiences.
During her tenure at Arlington, she directed the One Act plays, class plays, twelve musicals (her favorite was Fiddler on the Roof) and the Christmas plays given to the elementary grades. She also served as sponsor for the yearbook and the summer invention program. Kathy was awarded the Golden Apple Award and was inducted in to the Arlington High School Hall of Fame. She enjoyed photography and developing films and she also enjoyed painting, ceramics, and porcelain dolls.
Kathy owned and operated The Unique Shoppe, using her many talents to provide a variety of services, including wedding and birthday cakes, wallpaper hanging, reupholstering furniture, making porcelain dolls and the clothing for them, sewing window treatments, making quilts and quilting them on the long-arm quilter.
The highlight of her days included spending time with her nieces and nephews, celebrating their birthdays and achievements.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Wilma Cahill, brothers Dan and Jerry Cahill, sister Ellen Mulligan and an infant sister Mary Kay.
She is survived by her sister, Norma Jean Cahill of Genoa, Sister-in-law Katherine Cahill of Clarkson, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews, a friend of 59 years Mary Jane Thulin of Fremont, many other friends and her best friend Oscar, her dog.
