Karla Baumert

Karla Baumert, age 86 formerly of Columbus, died Wednesday, January 17, 2024, in Raymore, MO.

Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2024, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. Visitation is Thursday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery.

Karla A. Baumert was born February 19, 1937, in Wahoo to John and Evelyn (Heldt) Speckmann.  A lifelong Nebraska resident, she grew up in Yutan and graduated from Belgrade High School. She attended Wayne State College and afterwards taught country school. In January of 1960, she married Joe Baumert. The couple then resided in Columbus. Karla worked as a bookkeeper- with most of her years spent at Columbus Steel Supply. She loved reading the newspaper, coffee on Saturday mornings with the ladies, shopping in Kansas City, and beautiful flowers in the summer.  She was a faithful caregiver to her parents, grandmother and in-laws.

She is survived by daughter Debbie (Dan) Braun, grandsons Andrew (Erika)Braun and Aaron (Jill) Braun, great grandsons Macon, Monroe and Weston, sisters Karen Sabatka and Rita Kafka, sister-in-law Pat Baumert, many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
