Judith K. Nelson, 69, of Genoa, passed away from cancer on August 21, 2018 at the Genoa Medical Facilities.

Judy was born February 4, 1949 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the daughter of Elmer and Bonnie (Strayer) Nelson. In 1960 she moved with her family to Grand Island, where she graduated from high school in 1967. She joined the U.S. Navy WAVES during the Vietnam War, serving in a Navy legal office at North Island, Sand Diego, California. After her discharge, she attended Grand Island Business College, them moved to Denver, Colorado where she worked as a legal secretary for various law firms.

In 2009 Judy had a stroke which left her unable to work anymore. She suffered a more serious stroke in 2011, which left her partially paralyzed. Following that stroke, she came to live at the Genoa Long Term Care Facility to be near her family.

Judy was known for her sense of humor. She had a life-long love of listening to music, and also enjoyed reading and doing cross stitch embroidery.

Judy was preceded in death by both of her parents, Elmer and Bonnie Nelson, by her sister Pam Nelson, and by her brother-in-law Carl Ambrose. Left to cherish her memory are her sister Barbara Ambrose of Saint Paul, Nebraska, her nephews Phillip Ambrose and his wife Marina and David Ambrose and his wife Chelsea, all of Arizona, her aunt Jean Schmitt of Columbus, her uncle Homer and aunt Pat Nelson of Genoa and cousins.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
