Born on May 23, 1942, in Maryville, Missouri, to Burton and Marcella (McEnerney) Baldwin, Judi brought joy and warmth into the world from the very beginning. Her early years in Maryville shaped her compassionate and resilient spirit, which she carried with her throughout her life.
Judi graduated from Columbus High School, where she excelled both academically and artistically. She was a proud member of the school's marching band, serving as a Majorette and showcasing her talent and grace during performances. In 1959, Judi had the honor of participating in the Rose Bowl Parade, a cherished memory she held dear throughout her life.
Judi married the love of her life, Gary John Abegglen, on April 23rd, 1960. They recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary, a testament to the enduring love and commitment they shared. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and mutual respect. Gary and Judi shared a deep passion for sailing, spending countless joyful hours navigating the waters together aboard their two sailboats, the Jaci Lynn and Felicity. Their adventures on the open sea inspired Judi to pen her memoir, "Letters from Felicity," chronicling their voyages and shared experiences. Copies of Judi's book can be found at the Columbus Library, where her storytelling continues to inspire and captivate readers.
In addition to her love for sailing and writing, Judi was a successful entrepreneur and business owner. Judi's first job that she loved was grooming dogs, where her compassion and love for animals shone brightly. She owned and operated a children's clothing store Buttons and Bows of Columbus, and a country woodworking business, where her creativity and craftsmanship flourished. More recently, Judi pursued her passion for photography, establishing a photography business where she showcased photos of her favorite things at craft fairs and exhibitions.
Judi had a lifelong passion for Elvis. She had the incredible opportunity to see him in person three times, each experience leaving an indelible mark on her heart. His music brought her joy and comfort throughout her life.
Judi and Gary's generosity extended beyond their family and businesses. Through a church program, they were led to foster Tony, a Native American child, for 7 years, and Gail, another Native American child, for 1 year, providing them with love, care, and support. They also loved supporting the Holiday Co-op annually and enjoyed the experience of shopping and giving, spreading joy and kindness to those in need.
Judi is survived by her loving husband, Gary Abegglen; her children, Jeff (Cheryl) Abegglen, Mike (Sheryl) Abegglen, Jaci (Brent) Behlen; her brother, Jack (Cathy) Baldwin; her grandchildren, Nick (Sarah) Abegglen, Ashley (John) Ring, Nate Abegglen, Jordan (Liz) Abegglen, Hailee (Alex) Turner, Kim (Kyle) Buss, Jocilynn (Dalton) Gydesen, Bo Behlen; her 14 great-grandchildren and her beloved King Charles Cavalier dog, Sophie.
Judi was preceded in death by her parents, Burt and Marcie Baldwin, and her husband's parents, Arthur and Phyllis Abegglen.
As a mother, Judi was a guiding light to her children, instilling in them the values of kindness, empathy, and perseverance. She took great pride in watching them grow into compassionate and accomplished individuals.
Judi will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, creativity, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the family for future designation.
