It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister Josie R. Velez who passed away on January 6, 2024 at the age of 55 years due to a cancerous brain tumor.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2024 at the Word of Life Church in Columbus. Visitation is Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home.

Josie is the 16th sibling of 19 who  Antonia, Mike,Rosa,Maria,Anna,Richard,David,Linda,Adrian,Veroncia,Maria,Juanita,Josefina,Cecilia,Jesus.

Preceded in death by her father John T. Casillas, Husband, Miguel A Velez ,Brothers, Charlie, Joe and Johnny.

Josie "La Guera" as she was know was born March 19, 1968 in North Platte, Nebr. To John T Casillas & Consuelo P. Casillas.  Josie is also a twin, her twin is Josefina Casillas.  Josie was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, wife and friend who will be deeply missed.

Josie spent most of her formative in North Platte years.  She moved to Cimarron, Kansas and eventually moved to Schuyler, Nebraska where she worked at Excel Meat Processing Plant, (aka) Cargill Meat Solution.

She met her beloved husband Miguel Angel Velez at a dance at the VFW then they married March 21, 1992 at the Columbus, Nebraska Courthouse. They have 3 son's Jose Manuel Velez, Miguel Angel Velez Jr., Erick Daniel Velez & 3 grandsons Angel Abdiel Becerra, Alijah William Velez, Eziah Joel Velez.

John  3:16  For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
