Josephine U. Bernt, Born June 20th,1912 Duncan, Nebraska.
At 98 years of age, Josephine's Christmas Wish was answered when she was called home to be with her heavenly father, her husband Alvy and daughter Maxine. By her side was her son Myron, son-in-law Lee and Bryan, Sue (grand

Josephine was born to Barney and Anna (Balasa) Tomasevicz. Josephine went to the Catholic school in Duncan Neb. After that she worked at the Hasselbalch Nursing home, then at St. Mary's Hospital. On Aug 12th 1930 she married Alfred Bernt at the St. Andrews Catholic Church in Rural Osceola. They were blessed with 2 children Maxine and Myron. They lived on a farm in rural Shelby in the valley. Josephine was a lovely hard working vibrant woman. She loved to garden and canned everything to share with her family. Josephine loved to sew and was a wonderful seamstress. She did a lot sewing for her neighbors and made a lot of clothing for her grandchildren. She also sewed many lap robes for the American Legion Auxiliary. Josephine was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and Alter society. There are many wonderful memories of Josephine and special times shared with all her grandchildren having weekly summer visits on the farm. She was always there to listen, spoil and baby-sit her grandchildren. She would teach her granddaughters to sew blankets for dolls. She enjoyed fishing and playing cards with Alvy not to mention working hard on the family farm. One of her fondest memories was her Sunday dinners on the farm with Lee grilling. She moved to Shelby, Neb. in 1984 and belonged to the Sacred Heart church. Josephine moved to Columbus in 2002 where she lived at The Cottonwood Assisted Living. In 2007 she moved to Columbus Golden Living Center. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
