Joseph Nicolas, age 98, died Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation is 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning from 8:30 - 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial is in the Presentation Cemetery near Bellwood, Nebraska with military honors by American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard.
Joseph was born October 13, 1920 in Columbus to Joseph and Mary (Demuth) Nicolas. He received his education at District #13 near Bellwood. Joe served in the United States Navy during WWII from 1942-1946. He married Phyllis Glatter on November 26, 1946 in Shelby. They farmed southwest of Bellwood for 48 years until moving into Columbus in 1994. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church where he had an hour of perpetual adoration for many years, the Knight of Columbus and the American Legion. Joe was a past member of St. Peters in Bellwood where he served as an acolyte for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Phyllis, parents, infant daughter: Patricia, sisters: Marie (Joe) Rinke and Evelyn (Lawrence) Rinke, great grandson: Zachary
