Obituary

John Joseph Vyhlidal was born February 11, 1943 to John Francis and Kristina (Navrkal) and passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2025 at Countryside Home in Madison.

Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 am Friday. December 5 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. There will be a Vigil service at 10:00 am Friday before the Mass, also at the Church. There will be Military Honors by The American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard. Interment is in St. Patrick and Joseph Cemetery, Platte Center.

John graduated from North Bend High School in 1961 and served in the US Navy from 1962 until 1965 during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed two years stationed in Japan aboard the US Washoe County. He also served in San Diego aboard the USS Yorktown. His first marriage gave him two sweet daughters, Kim and Kelly, and one son, Kirk. On June 27, 1975, he married Jae Lynn Kluever, and they were blessed with a son John and two daughters Jenna and Jordan. They celebrated 50 years together in June.

John loved hugs, his family, cowboy shows, Czech music, his faith, and playing cards with good friends. He was proud of his Czech heritage, spoke Czech, and played the tuba with several bands.

John was an incredibly hard worker spending years as a farmer, a millwright, a heavy equipment operator, and was the HVAC coordinator for the Columbus public schools for 25 years.

In his early years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding horses, and gardening. He spent his later years as a devoted father and husband, a fantastic cook, and a lover of his Catholic faith with a special devotion to Mary and the Holy Family. He repaired broken rosaries for many people and charged only one prayer for his work.

John will finally be remembered for his great hugs, his kindness to others, and his infectious sense of humor.

John is survived by his wife Jae Lynn; his children Kim (Marty) Carr of Lincoln; Kelly (Ric) Voss of Bloomfield; John (Sandie) Vyhlidal of Beaverton, Oregon; Jenna Vyhlidal of Silverdale, Washington; and Jordan Vyhlidal of Inavale, NE. He is survived by his brother Stan Vyhlidal of Fremont, brother-in-law, Pat (Mary) Kluever of Florida, three sisters-in-law Jeri (Ron) Furby, Sheryl Klug, and Mary Jo Totten of Indiana, 7 grandchildren,14 great grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, his parents, his sister Kathy, and a sister-in-law, Arlene.
