John Tate

John Tate, age 89, died Friday, February 16, 2024, at the Norfolk Veterans Home.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation is Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the church. Interment with military honors by The American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard will be held in Omaha National Cemetery on April 23, 2024, at 2:30 p.m.

John was born February 9, 1935, to Morris and Dorothy (Poindexter) Tate in Moorhaven, FL. He was raised by his foster parents Gorden and Claribell Keller in Spencer, NE, where he attended and graduated school. He enlisted in the US Army at 17 years old (1952) until his honorable discharge in 1960. John achieved the rank of Master Sergeant prior to his discharge. He was united in marriage to Judith Dunn on November 28, 1963. They made their home in Columbus, NE.
John was a longtime member of the VFW and The American Legion Hartman Post 84. He took great pride in keeping a very neat and well-kept lawn.
