John Thomas Rogers Jr. (Tom), 71, of Columbus, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at home on May 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife and sons.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2025, at St. Isidore Catholic Church. There will be a vigil service at 4:00 p.m. Thursday followed by visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the church.
A beloved husband, proud father and grandfather, loyal brother, and steadfast friend, Tom's life was a testament to love, dedication and quiet achievement.
Born on February 19, 1954, Tom grew up with a deep passion for sports and competition. A standout athlete at Creighton Preparatory School, he excelled in football, basketball and track. He continued his athletic career at Augustana University, where he earned a place in the Hall of Fame as a record-setting football player. He still holds school records for most touchdowns (20) and most points (120) scored in a single season—accomplishments that reflected not only his physical talent but also his determination and heart.
After college, Tom turned his drive and discipline toward building a successful life off the field. Tom married Connie Horbach on Jan 10, 1981, in Omaha, Nebraska, and began to raise a loving family together. He operated a respected dry-cleaning business for decades and was widely known in his community for his honesty, work ethic and generous spirit.
Tom's passions extended far beyond business and sports. He had a lifelong love of horse racing, enjoyed a good round of golf and found his greatest joy in time spent with family and friends. Whether at home or in the community, his warmth, humor and strength left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Connie Rogers (Horbach), and their four sons: Tom (Brooke), Chris (Rachel), Bob (Rechelle) and Scott (Stephanie). He was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren—five grandsons and five granddaughters—who brought him immense joy. Also surviving are his sister, Sue Mullin (Bob), and brothers, Rich Rogers (Sally) and Tim Rogers. His loyal dog, Muca, remained by his side until the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Rosemary Rogers.
Tom Rogers will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered and forever honored.
