John "Jack" V. Murphy of Columbus died Monday, November 26, 2012 at his home.
John Jack V.Murphy was born September 11, 1921 in Grand Island, Nebraska to John F. and Sara T. (Waite) Murphy. He attended St. Mary's Elementary and High School in Grand Island. After graduation he worked for Lockheed Aircraft Co. in Burbank, California until he entered the Army Air Corps in January 1943 serving with the 52nd Troop Carrier Squadron, Glider Operations until discharged in February 1946. He married Dorothy D. Staroscik on October 23rd, 1945. After being discharged from the service they moved to California. While living in California for over 40 years he was employed as an insurance investigator with Allstate Insurance Co., with the last 23 years as Senior Premium Auditor. He retired in 1988 returning to live in Columbus, Nebraska.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 938, The American Legion, Amvets, Eagles Club and Patron of the Friends of Music. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church.
He enjoyed traveling, photography, painting, music and writing stories and poetry.
He is survived by one son Kevin J. (Patty) of Columbus and one Grandson Kevin D. (Rachelle) of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy, daughter Kimberly, three brothers, Allen, in his infancy, James, and William.
