John P. Koziol of Columbus died Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at Columbus Community Hospital.
John P. Koziol was born June 25, 1916 near Tarnov, Nebraska to John and Anna (Zoucha) Koziol. He attended St. Michael's School in Tarnov. On July 10, 1951 John married Laura Zoucha at St. Michael's Church in Tarnov. He farmed near Tarnov until moving to Columbus in 1971. He also worked at the D&L (Camaco) plant for 13 years, retiring in 1981.
Prior to WWII John worked in various states on the railroad and on farms. He served in the U.S. Army from April 1942 - October 1945 in the 601st Field Artillery Battalion in both the European & Asiatic-Pacific Theaters of Operations earning 4 battle stars for Rome-Arno, Rhineland, Central Europe & the Aleutian Islands. John was a member of St. Anthony Church,American Legion and a lifetime member of the V.F.W.. He loved being with his family & traveling, especially to the western states. He was a longtime Polish musician for nearly 60 years, playing guitar, violin and accordion with many bands.
He is survived by his sons Roy of Columbus and Lonnie of John Day, Oregon; Daughter Barbara Koziol of Columbus; Brothers Stanley of Columbus and Ralph of Humphrey; Brothers-in-law Bob (Jane) Zoucha of Omaha and Joe (Sandee) Zoucha of Duluth, Georgia; Sisters-in-law Rosie (Ray) Zelasney of Omaha and Annette (Renny) Sliva of Hemet, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Laura; Brothers Barney, Joe, Tom, Frank, and Mike; Sisters Mary Thomas, Josephine Koziol and Laurene Koziol; Father-in-law Joe P. Zoucha; Mother-in-law Mary Zoucha; Brothers-in-law Earl Thomas, Larry Zoucha, Art Zoucha, Chester Zoucha, Gene Zoucha and Jerry Zoucha; Sisters-in-law; Frances Swierczek, Irene Borke, Florence Koziol, Rosella Koziol, Elizabeth Koziol and Patty Dixon.
