John Kobza

John J. Kobza, age 91, died Friday, October 25, 2019 at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation is 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Monday with a 6:00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at St. Isidore Church. Burial is in the All Saints Cemetery.

John J. Kobza was born August 1, 1928 in Butler County, Nebraska to John C. and Emma (Novak) Kobza. He graduated from Dwight Assumption School. John married Dolores "Brownie" Jisa on September 27, 1947 at Dwight Assumption Catholic Church. The couple farmed near Loma, Nebraska and ran the Hilltop Café in Brainard. They later moved to Schuyler where they owned and operated the Town Pump Tavern. In 1964 they moved to Columbus where he worked at Higgins Mill in Schuyler and then at D&L in Columbus. John also worked for Fleischer Manufacturing for a short time and drove bus for Columbus Public School. In his retirement John mowed at the Elks Club until he was 88. John was a founding member of St. Isidore Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening, making salsa and taking care of his lawn.

4 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren
Sister: Lillian "Mitz" Kobza of Seward, NE
Sister: Dorothy Miriovsky of David City, NE
Brother: Gilbert (Florence) Kobza of Seward, NE

He was preceded in death by:

Wife: Dolores Kobza
Sister and Brother-in-law, Henrietta and Bohumil Hain; Sister Rita M. Kobza, Brother-in-law Joe Miriovsky; Half Brothers and Spouses Jerry and Agnes Kobza, Raymond "Cy" and Charlotte Kobza, Julius and Elaine Kobza, George and Adeline Krska; Half Sister and Husband Anna and Ed Zitek; Nephew Greg Hain; Great Nephew Eric Bader; nephews Bernard Krska, Fritz Zitek, and Marvin Zitek
