John died Thursday, February 27, 2014 at his home in Columbus.
John J. Kantor was born September 21, 1955 in Wahoo, Nebraska to John S. and Marilyn M. (Prochaska) Kantor. He graduated from Columbus Scotus High School in 1973. On October 25, 1983 John enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served during operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded numerous medals including 2 Bronze Stars. He was honorably discharged from active duty on May 31, 2005 retiring as First Sergeant with the 1st Infantry Division "Big Red One". John was a member of the Sergeant Morales Club, Audi Murphy Club and was inducted into the Honorable Order of St. Barbara, Patron Saint of the Field Artillery. He enjoyed horse racing, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He was always willing to offer a helping hand to others.
