John Holys, age 67, of Columbus, Nebraska died Saturday, December 25, 2004 at his home. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Visitation is 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Monday with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.
John Joseph Holys was born December 30, 1936 in Greeley, Nebraska to John and Catherine (Maslonka) Holys. He graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1955 and later from Platte College in Columbus. He married Jean Adams on June 13, 1959 at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus. John served in the United States Army from 1955-1957. He then returned to Columbus where he worked at Becton-Dickinson for 37 years until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, B-D Alumni, AmVets and the Knights of Columbus Council 12086. He enjoyed traveling, reading, walking, football, family, friends and his grandchildren.
