John Bruce Hasch

Bonita Springs, FL - J. Bruce Hasch, 86, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at his home in The Terraces of Bonita Springs, FL. He was a long-time resident of the Chicagoland area, after growing up in Genoa, NE.

Bruce is survived by his loving family: his daughter, Jill (Jeffrey) Mueller; his son, Matthew (Amanda) Hasch; five grandchildren, Emma Joan and Charles Mueller, Alex (Marcus) Eide, Madisyn (Jeremy) Hardy, and Karsyn (Alec) Whaley; his brother-in-law, Kenneth Larson; and five great-grandchildren. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents Hazel and John Hasch, his loving wife Joan "Punky" (Larson) Hasch and his sister-in-law Dorothy (Chuck) Kurtz.

Bruce graduated from the University of Nebraska with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1960 and earned an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1976. He served in the Texas National Guard for six years.

Completing a 38-year career, Bruce served as the President and Chief Operating Officer of People's Energy Corporation and subsidiaries Peoples Gas, Light, and Coke Co. and North Shore Gas. Bruce volunteered his time as Vice Chair of the Chicago Urban League, board member of Junior Achievement, as well as Finance Chair of the United Way of Chicago. He served as Treasurer of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Lenox and Prestwick Country Golf Club in Frankfort for numerous years. He lost his beloved wife Joan in 2006 after 46 years of marriage.

Bruce loved his church friends, golfing, playing cards, doing puzzles and finishing endless WSJ crosswords. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was known as being a great listener, having a kind heart, enjoying a great joke, and chiming in with a wink and a clever quip. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church by Pastor Douglas Hoag in New Lenox, IL on April 23, 2025, at 10:00am. Local services will be held at Augustana Lutheran Church in Genoa, NE on April 25, 2025, at 11:00am, with the family receiving friends from 10:00-11:00am at the church. interment is in Valley View Cemetery, where he will be buried next to Joan.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church in New Lenox, IL.
