John "Jack" Gronenthal, age 68, of Platte Center, Nebraska died Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Funeral Services are 10:00 am Monday, October 2 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center with the Rev. Rod Kneifl officiating. Visitation is after 5 pm Sunday at St. Joseph's Church with a Vigil service at 7:00 pm, also at the church. Visitation continues Monday morning from 9 am until service time at the church. Interment is in Ss. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors by Platte Center Parry Post #283.
John "Jack" D. Gronenthal was born November 3, 1937 in Monroe, Nebraska to Louis and Edith (Langan) Gronenthal. He graduated from Platte Center High School before joining the US Navy in 1955. He returned to Platte Center following his discharge in 1958. Jack was involved in an automobile accident on his return home from the service which resulted in his paralysis. Jack overcame his limitations and was active in everyday life. Jack was involved in woodworking and in the family farm and cattle operations. Jack also assembled parts for Saunders Archery. He enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing, playing chess, winemaking, and was always involved in the lives of his family. Jack was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
