John Gillett of Shelby died Thursday, September 1, 2106 at Columbus Community Hospital.

John was born June 18, 1944 to Ralph and Lorene (Schmoker) Gillett in David City, NE. John graduated from Rising City High School in 1962. John married Marian (Bohuslavsky) in 1963. To this union three children were born. John was a master of all trades. Then in 1984 he married Kate (Langer) and into this union one child was born. John's passion was anything mechanical. He drove semi-trucks for several years and was a diesel mechanic until his retirement. He enjoyed racing, hot rods, fishing, hunting and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife Kate, of Shelby, his sister Polly (Jay) Henderson, of Valparaiso, his children Jeff (Nancy) Gillett, Michelle Mazour, both of Lincoln, Julie (Lyle) Eagan, of Massachusetts, Trevor (Erica) Gillett, of Bellevue, step children include Angie Andreasen, Deb Smith, both of Columbus. Grandchildren Amanda (Ryo) Motohara, Jeffrey (Savannah) Gillett, Cassandra and Ryan Mazour, Rob, Lyle II and Jonathan Eagan, Ariana and Michaelynn Gillett, Molly Andreasen, Derreck Langer and Mallory Smith and Heather Kozal and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Joyce Gillett and stepson Michael Langer.

A memorial fund has been established at Pinnacle Bank in John's name.
