John M. Bonk

John died Sunday at the Columbus Community Hospital.

John M. Bonk was born February 25, 1929 in Columbus, Nebraska to Charles and Anna (Kuta) Bonk. He was raised in Platte County and received his early education at St. Anthony Grade School. He then attended seminary college at St. Joseph in Oak Brook, Illinois. John served as a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean War where he received the Bronze Star. John married Elaine Alt on September 1, 1953 in Columbus. John worked for Lyman Richey Corporation for 30 years as a large equipment operator. He retired in 1991. John was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church where he served on the parish council and the finance committee. John also served as a lector, E.M.E., and sang in the Mixed, Funeral and Legion Choirs. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the VFW, and the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, rock collecting, and polka music.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Bonaventure Church or donors choice.
