Jerome Jarecke

Jerome Jarecke, age 75, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Monday, March 24 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation is on Sunday from 4-7 pm at McKown Funeral Home with a combined Parish and Knights of Columbus Vigil at 7:00 pm, also at the funeral home. Visitation continues Monday morning from 8-10:00 am at McKown Funeral Home. Interment is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery with Military Honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.
Jerome F. Jarecke was born on August 9, 1932 on a farm in Nance County near Fullerton, Nebraska to Walter and Frances (Podraza) Jarecke. He graduated from Fullerton High School in 1950. He worked at the family farm after graduation before enlisting in the US Army in 1953 and serving in the Korean War Conflict. On June 16, 1956 he was united in marriage to Florence Elaine Kresha in Polk County. Jerome worked in construction and manufacturing before becoming the manager of the Columbian Village Apartments from 1971 until his retirement. He was a life long member of the Knights of Columbus serving as Past Grand Knight of Council 938, Past State Deputy of Nebraska and 4th Degree Member, St. Bonaventures Church and past president of parish council, Former President of Scotus Central Catholic Booster Club, VFW and American Legion Member, Isaac Walton Past President, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever Member. Jerome was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, card and pool player and was a regular at morning coffee club. He loved spending time with family and friends and working at the family farm.
