Jared "Joe" Pleis, age 88, of Columbus died Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.
Jared "Joe" Pleis was born July 28, 1922 in Fairbury, Nerbaska to Fred and Adelaide (Coopich) Pleis. He grew up in Fairbury and graduated from Fairbury High School. He served as a tank commander in the United States Army during World War II. He was stationed in North Africa and Italy. He married Marilyn Ruhnke on July 4, 1948 in Fairbury. He worked as the city manager in Beatrice for several years. In 1972 he moved to Columbus where he worked for Nebraska Public Power District until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of Federated Church and a lifetime member of the V.F.W and American Legion.
