Janice "Jan" Cook, age 77 of Columbus, Nebraska died Monday, June 5, 2017 at her home in Columbus surrounded by loved ones following a courageous battle with cancer.
Janice "Jan" Cook was born September 1, 1939 to W. Martin and Leona L. (Borgelt) Wilson at Louisville, Nebraska. They moved to Herman, Nebraska to farm when Jan was one year old. They lived there until moving to Fremont, Nebraska when Jan was 14 years old. She graduated from Fremont High School at 16 years of age. Jan married Donald Cook at Trinity Lutheran Church on November 3, 1956. They had two children, Teri Kayleen and Donald Jr. They lived in Fremont until 1963, moving to Palmer, Nebraska where they farmed until 1973. After leaving the farm, moved to Columbus where both Jan and Don were employed at Lindsay Manufacturing. In 1978 Jan was employed as CEO of Columbus United Federal Credit Union, where she worked for 21 years until retiring in May of 1999. During that tenure she served on the Nebraska Credit Union Leagues board of directors from 1993 through 1999. Jan took pride in her ability to assist employees of over 30 Columbus businesses with their financial needs. Following retirement, Jan enjoyed RV traveling with Don, golfing, bowling and reading.
Jan was a devoted mother and grandmother, cherishing time spent with her family. She was also a dedicated member of Peace Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Peace Lutherans Pastors Fund or Shepherds Canyon Retreat near Phoenix, AZ in care of the family.
