Janet Long

Janet Mary (Bernt) Long went to her heavenly home on March 20, 2021.

A Memorial Service will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Saturday also at the funeral home.

Janet was born on December 14, 1954, to Oswald Jr. and Barbara Bernt in Omaha, NE. From grade school on she was raised by her maternal grandparents John and Mary Mimick. She graduated from Scotus High School in 1973.

Janet married Robert N. Long on September 6, 1974. They had two sons Travis (Tracy) and Mike (Shayla) Long, both of Columbus, NE. To these unions were born her grandchildren Joey and Julia, and Roman and Watson, and heavenly babies Vera and Vincent.

Janet worked at Dale's for many years, and various other jobs including being a breakfast cook at Picket Fence. Unfortunately, she had a serious stroke in 2007 which left her with disabilities. She was able to recover and live a semi-independent life in an assisted living apartment at Emerald Care. Janet enjoyed her little apartment and getting to know those who worked at Emerald.  She was a sweet and kind-hearted person who had a desire to make others happy.  She had a smile that brought joy to many people and she will be very missed.

Janet was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, brothers Ed, Tim, and Tom; two infant sisters; ex-husband Bob; and precious infant grandchildren Vera and Vincent.

She is survived by sons Travis (Tracy) and Mike (Shayla) of Columbus, NE, and grandchildren Joey, Julia, Roman, and Watson. She is also survived by her brother Joe Bernt of Merritt Island, FL, and sister Sue Noyd (Benny) of Bethany, MO. and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
