Janet D. Heft (12/13/49-12/6/23)

Janet Dolores Heft of Columbus, Nebraska passed away in the early hours of Wednesday,
December 6th, 2023, in Lincoln, Nebraska surrounded by many loved ones. She lived a long and
full 73 years before being called to her heavenly home with Jesus.

Janet Heft was born December 13, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska to Edwin and Gloria Heft.
She grew up on a farm northeast of Primrose and spoke fondly of many childhood memories
growing up in rural Nebraska. One of her most told tales includes the treacherous blizzard she
survived in which she had to "climb the same hill 3 times over in the freezing cold to get to
school". She attended Cedar Rapids High School where she graduated in 1968. After
graduating, she went on to business school in Grand Island. She also took classes to learn
mechanic skills, where she prided herself on being self-sufficient, skilled, and better than most
men at overhauling an engine. She had a determination to take on whatever life handed her
way and worked a variety of careers in her 73 years, including as a social worker and at the
state capital.

Janet loved spending time with family & friends and enjoyed her hobbies. She was an avid
crocheter; she made many afghans in her free time. She loved spending time serving Christ
through church, bible study, and fellowship. She also had an impressive collection of angel
figurines & knick-knacks.

Janet loved playing with her grandchildren and of course spoiling them, even into adulthood.
She also cherished the memories she made helping to raise her grandson, Austin. She was
overjoyed to meet & begin spoiling her first great grandchild earlier this year. Janet lived to give
and is remembered by many as the person they could turn to in any circumstance for help. Her
strength & ability to rise to any occasion have impacted the lives of many, and in that way her
legacy continues.

She is preceded in death by: her parents Edwin Heft, mother Gloria Heft and brother Ronald
Heft and many aunts and uncles.

She is survived by: siblings Richard (Sabrina) Heft of Nebraska City, NE and Eva Cole of
Columbus, NE; children Richard (Judy) Denton of Platte Center, NE and Tammy Denton of
Columbus, NE; grandchildren Sasha (Kendra) Denton of Bellevue, NE, Jacob (Jenna) Denton of
Rapid City, SD, Austin (Tessa) Cox of Lincoln, NE, Thomas Denton of Platte Center, NE, and
Savanna (Zach) Denton of Omaha, NE; Great grand step son Cody, great granddaughter Nora and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

The family will receive friends and visitors on Saturday, December 16 from 1-2 p.m. at McKown
Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Reception after the service will be held at Methodist church hall.
