Obituary

Jane C. Kasik

Jane C. Kasik, 78, of rural Schuyler, died peacefully Monday, March 9th, 2026, in her home surrounded by her family.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2026, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation is 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday with a 6:00 p.m. vigil service, all at the church. Visitation will continue Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place in at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Schuyler Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Isidore Parish Center Hall Fund or to the family for future designation.

Jane Carol Kruger was born on January 8th, 1948, to Max W. and Shirley H. (Krivohlavek) Kruger in Columbus, Nebraska. She attended Schuyler Elementary and Schuyler High Schools. On November 21st, 1964, Jane married the love of her life, Kenneth Kasik, and they were blessed with 61 years of marriage.

Jane worked many years for Drs. Fencl and Sucha, Schuyler Memorial Hospital, StaffCo, finally retiring from the Columbus Community Hospital Patient Accounts Department. She taught CCD for 7 years at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church and was an altar society member. One of Jane’s great pleasures was cooking for her family and friends! She also enjoyed golf, nature, spending time with family, friends, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their cabin near the Platte River.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Kasik, daughter Shelley (Ron) Papa of David City, son Jim (Jane M.) Kasik of Schuyler, and son Nick (Niki) Kasik of Blue Springs, MO, one brother Gary Kruger of Galveston, TX, sister-in-law Joan Kasik of Lincoln, brother-in-law Lawrence Kasik of Richland, sisters-in-law Maryann Kasik of Columbus and Carolyn Brichacek of Leesburg, VA, and brother-in-law Gerald Kasik of Spokane, WA, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; Molly (Michael) Parsons, (Beau, Tyke & Huck Parsons); Josh (Sarah) Papa, (Tate, Lane & Jack Papa); Klay (Ashley) Kasik, (Waylon & Grayson Kasik); Kalen (Baylee) Kasik, (Jackson & Karson Jane Kasik); Jake Kasik and his friend Charlie Rinke; Alex Kasik Walter; two step-granddaughters, Megan (Vic) Chavarin and Amber Kasik McCurdy; many nieces and nephews, and special friends Mary Ann Shonka, Mary Ann Krula, Lana Longachre and Bernie Hergott.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Shirley Kruger, father and mother-in-law Emil and Catherine (Moser) Kasik, one grandson Jared Kasik, and brothers and sisters in law; Ed & Shirley Wagner, Emil Kasik Jr., Marilyn Kasik, Marvin & Joyce Kasik, and Robert Kasik.
