James Dean Waymire of Columbus died Sunday, May 11, 2014 at his home in Columbus.
James was born January 2, 1938, to Floyd McKinley Waymire and Bertha Emelia (Hemmingsen) Waymire in Primrose, Nebraska. He attended elementary school in Cambridge, Nebraska and Primrose, where he graduated from high school in 1955. He worked in a lumberyard in Columbus after graduation and then moved to Anaheim, California, where he lived and worked until he entered the Army in 1959. He was stationed in Baden-Baden, Germany, where he worked in communications until he was discharged in 1962. He was then employed as an automobile mechanic in Estes Park, Colorado, where he met and married Phyllis Harvey. To this union were born 5 children. In 1964, they moved to Primrose where he worked as a mechanic until the 1965 tornado destroyed the shop, after which he rebuilt the garage where he was born and opened his own business. He later worked at a garage in Spalding, then for Douthit Construction as a large equipment mechanic for many years before working for Foxley, Schalk, and later Niewohner Farms as mechanic. He also ran his own business in Cedar Rapids where they moved in 1971. He retired in 2002.
Jim liked shing, repairing any engine or motor, western movies, his highly valued AA coins, and his cats.
He is survived by his daughters, Tracy Ann (Mark, deceased) Zentner, Cindy (Scott) Greger, and Cheryl (Duane) Ransdell; son Allen Waymire, sister-in-law Betty Waymire, grandchildren Jeremiah Davlin, William Davlin, Zachary Zentner, Christine Zentner, Macy Zentner, Anastasia Waymire, Charles Loughman, Brenden Loughman, TJ Reardon, Andrew Reardon, Neeley Greger, Casey Greger, Bailey Greger, Jasmine Waymire, Chey Lothrop and Tighe Brandenburger; step-grandchildren Justin Allen and Michaela Allen; 5 great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
James is predeceased by his parents; brothers Gerald Waymire, Harley Waymire and wife Mary Ann (Rolf), Eldon (Virginia) Waymire, and Willis (Betty) Waymire; sister Norma Jean (Bob) Tate; daughter Sheila Kay Waymire; son-in-law Mark Zentner.
