James "Jim" Sprunk of Columbus died Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Columbus Community Hospital.
James A. (Jim) Sprunk was born on December 12, 1944 in Columbus, NE to William, Jr and Betty (Jazwick) Sprunk. He attended St Joseph's Grade school in Platte Center, graduating in 1963 from Platte Center High School. After graduation Jim joined the Army National Guard where he served for 6 years. Jim married Betty Stachura in 1966 at St.Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. He lived and farmed his enter life in the Platte Center area, first with his dad and later with his brother, Bob. Jim also owned and operated Sprunk Trucking for the last 15 years. He was looking forward to his retirement next spring and turning the reins over to his son, Tod.
Jim was a faithful member of St. Joseph Church in Platte Center and now of St. Isidore's in Columbus.
He enjoyed going to the casinos (especially if he was winning), and loved watching his pride and joy, his grandchildren in all their activities. He was a proud owner of a red 57 Chevy, which he promised his grandkids they could take to their proms one day.
Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty. His children: Daughter, Stacey (Brian) Briles, of Monroe, IA, Grandchildren Brooke and Brody Briles, Son, Tod (Lenette Tworek) Sprunk, Grandchildren Dillon and Jacob Sprunk and, Daughter Darci and Roy Jr Reinke, Grandchildren Alli and Brandon Reinke, all of Columbus. His mother Betty R. Sprunk, brothers Robert (Cyndi) Sprunk, Mike (Alice) Sprunk all of Platte Center. Sisters Janet (Jack) Cook, Raymore, MO, Kathy (Mike) Richardson, Milford, MI, Mary (Dave) Hough Bellwood, Michelle (Mike) Wurdeman, Columbus , Brother and Sister in-laws Bob (Jane) Stachura, Rita (Ron) Tuma, Ruth (Mike) Preister, all of Columbus and Carol Stachura of Elgin IL , several nephews and nieces.
He was presided in death by his father William Sprunk, Jr, Platte Center, in-laws John and Martha Stachura, Columbus and brother-in-law Bill Stachura, Elgin, IL
