James "Jim" Lippstreu, age 83, of David City, died Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at the Wisner Care Center in Wisner, Nebraska.
James John Lippstreu was born October 29, 1932 in Columbus, Nebraska to John W. and Marie (Griesen) Lippstreu. He received his early education at the Secord Ward School. He then attended St. Bonaventure School where he graduated in 1951. James entered the U.S. Air Force on April 11, 1952. He served overseas in Korea. He served as a security officer on intelligence gathering flights. Upon his discharge on February 21, 1956, he returned to Columbus. He was married to Virginia Alt. To this union 5 children were born. He worked at several jobs including 7-Up delivery, power line construction, Dorothy Lynch, owned & operated Boulevard Sports Shop, provided security for Columbus Hospital, official for basketball and football games and maintenance at David Place in David City. James major occupation from 1975-1993 was as a captain with the Columbus Police Department. He received many certifications from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Services. James married Mary High on April 29, 2000 in David City where they continued to live. James was an avid collector of guns and Civil War memorabilia.

5 grandchildren: Christopher Cielocha & special friend Kayla Hamilton , Amanda Cielocha & fiance Kent Malone, Kendall Lippstreu & fiance Seth Augustine, Jordan Lippstreu, Chloe Lippstreu
Stepchildren: Rob & Ann High of Jefferson, SD, Lori & Doug Peters of Columbus
6 Step Grandchildren: Nehemiah, Elijah, Hananiah, Caleb Peters, Thomas & Mary High
James was preceded in death by his parents and his son Matthew.
