Jack Selzer

December 31, 1926 — April 18, 2023

Jack Selzer, age 96 formerly of Bellwood, died Tuesday, April 18th, 2023, in Lincoln.

Otto "Jack" Selzer was born December 31st, 1926, to Otto and Lucile (Koenig) Selzer in Bellwood. He attended and graduated high school from Bellwood. Jack served in the US Army during WWII, where he was stationed in New York City. He was a supply clerk and amongst his more memorable duties was that of arranging accommodations for war brides.  After returning from service, Jack was united in marriage on July 15th, 1947, to his high school sweetheart Claryce Ebel at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Bellwood. Three children were born unto this marital union. Jack and Claryce enjoyed nearly 75 years of marriage, until her death in March of 2022.
Jack was a pillar of the Bellwood community until his medical needs necessitated him moving to an assisted living facility in 2022.  Over the years in Bellwood, he served as the mayor, was a legion post commander, school board member, volunteer firefighter, and served on the Bank of the Valley board. He was a man of faith and an active member at St. Peter's church in Bellwood. Jack was employed for over 40 years by the Bellwood Farmers Co-op. He was also employed by the village of Bellwood. Jack was an avid collector. Some of his collections included guns, coins, and clocks. Jack loved a good game of poker and had a standing order for a Windsor and water. With his birthday on New Year's Eve, he would often celebrate at the Oak Ballroom in Schuyler. We know Jack would rather that people celebrate his life than mourn his death.

Jack is survived by his daughter Nancy Selzer, son Scott (Karen) Selzer, grandchildren Josh and Nicole Selzer and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Claryce (Ebel) Selzer, son John Selzer and sister Lila (Selzer) Hiller.
