Irene died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.
Irene Lucille Liss was born February 20, 1929 in Primrose, Nebraska to Peter and Frances (Allison) Liss. She attended elementary school in Boone County and high school at Albion and St. Edward graduating in 1945. Irene attended one year at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln by correspondence and off campus at Columbus and Nebraska Central College in Central City. In 1945 she began teaching in rural elementary schools in Boone and Nance Counties. Irene also worked at the Columbus Shirt Factory before going to work at Becton-Dickinson for 20 years until retiring in 1979. She was a member of St. Isidore Church. Irene was a past member of St. Anthony Church where she was past president of the St. Theresa Sodality, taught PRE classes and was a lector and commentator. She was a member of the adult choir and funeral choirs where she served as organist. Irene was a delegate to Archdiocesan Pastoral Council representing the rural southwest Deanery for 6 years. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary #1834 and a volunteer with the Nebraska Department of Social Services and Central Nebraska Community Services.
