Ileana "Senior" Bernal-Benet died Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Mory's Haven in Columbus.
Ileana, daughter of Jose Domingo & Blanche (Benet) Bernal, was born February 12, 1938 in Lares, Puerto Rico. She was a 1955 graduate of Domingo Aponte Collazo High School, Lares, Puerto Rico. She earned her teaching certificate in 1957.
She was united in marriage to Cleofe Carde Arocho on February 8, 1958 at San Jose de la Montana Catholic Church in Lares, Puerto Rico. She was a stay-at-home mom until her children were old enough for school. She taught elementary school for over 25 years at Claret Academy in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. After retiring from teaching, she worked at Amigo Supermarket Company as an Accounting Clerk for over 10 years.
Ileana moved to Columbus, Nebraska in January 1995. Ileana worked with Columbus Public Schools as a Recruiter for the Migrant Program until retiring in May 2003. She was a Columbus Community Hospital volunteer for over 10 years stationed mainly in the front desk. She also worked with the Quilting Ladies of CCH. She was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister with Saint Bonaventure Catholic Churchs Spanish ministry in Columbus. She loved to sew, knit, scrapbook, read, watch her Spanish TV, cook Puertorican food and to feed her family.
She is survived by four children:

Sister: Gysela (Ruben) Marquez of Lisle, IL
10 grandkids: Jacob & Mark Jarecki of Platte Center; Alejandra & Gino Carde of Florida; Gabriel, Gianna & Max Carde of Platte Center, Soledad & Lola Carde of California; Marisabel Carde of Puerto Rico plus 2 great-grandkids in Puerto Rico.
She is also survived by many family and friends in Puerto Rico as well as in Nebraska.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband (on April 7, 1975), a sister and grandparents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the donor's choice or family wishes.
