Henry died Saturday at Meridian Gardens in Columbus.
Henry R. Wiehn was born October 25, 1918, in Elgin, Nebraska, to Dan and Jennie (Lampman) Wiehn. He attended St. Boniface School in Elgin. He served in the United States Army during WWII from August 20, 1941, until October 20, 1945, in the 107th Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron in Germany and France. Henry received three battle stars for campaigns in the Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. He also received the Good Conduct Medal and the American Defense Service Ribbon. On January 30, 1951, he was united in marriage to Gertrude Zach at St. Francis Church in Humphrey. They farmed in the Elgin area until 1970 and then moved to Columbus in the same year. Henry worked for the Columbus Public School as a custodian at Emerson School for 12 years until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus #938, Fourth Degree Member of John F. Kennedy Assembly No. 605, Catholic Order of Foresters, American Legion Post #229 and V.F.W. Post 586 in Elgin, Life Member of Disabled American Veterans Pawnee Chapter #20-Columbus. In 1998, he moved to Prairie Village Retirement Center in Columbus. In September 2008, Henry moved to Meridian Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Bonaventure Church or donors choice.
