Helen McCarty of Columbus died Monday, November 28, 2011 at the Independence House in Lincoln.
Helen McCarty was born May 20, 1922 in York, NE to Arthur and Lydia (Nowak) Otto. She grew up on a farm outside of York and graduated from York Public Schools. On July 5, 1942 Helen was united in marriage to Robert L. McCarty. They lived in California and Arizona while Bob was a member of the United States Army. In the early 50s they moved to Columbus to raise their family. Helen was a devoted mother and excellent homemaker, raising her three children. Helen was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. She volunteered with the Hospital Auxiliary, various church activities, as well as a variety of other charitable causes. She was always willing to lend a hand wherever help was needed. Helens hobbies included raising horses in her youth on the farm, sewing, cooking, baking, and tending to her flower gardens. During Helens retirement years, her and Bob enjoyed traveling, especially to California and Florida. Helen lived the last few years at Meridian Gardens in Columbus and at the Independence House in Lincoln.
