Helen Mary Kula of Columbus died Monday, March 24, 2025 in Columbus.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Monday March 31, 2025 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. Sunday March 30, 2025 at the McKown Funeral Home. There will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary service at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Monday morning 9:30 a.m. until service at the church. Interment is in the All Saints Catholic Cemetery.
Helen was born January 31, 1921 in Merrick County, Nebraska to John and Mary (Czarnick) Starostka. She grew up in rural Silver Creek and attended rural country school and worked on the family farm. She was united in marriage to Peter Kula in Krakow, Nebraska. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and playing cards. Helen moved to Columbus where she was a member of St. Anthony Church and St. Theresa Sodality. She worked as a cook for Mory's, Behlen's and an in home caregiver for seniors. After retirement she did what she loved best, babysitting for family and friends. Her later years would be the joy of challenging her grandchildren and great grandchildren to card games and would win many times even at 104 years old. Helen will always be remembered for her great kindness, strong faith, patience and compassion.
Helen is survived by her children: Frances Gablenz, and Alice (Tom) Wunderlich and daughter-in-law Marilyn Kula, 8 grandchilden,14 Great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by, daughter and son-in-law: Florence & Edwin Kresha, son: Leonard Kula, parents, 1 sister and 3 brothers.
