Hazel "Maxine" Blezek, age 93, of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday January 11, 2004 at her home. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday January 15, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus with Reverend Douglas Zurek officiating. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Thursday with a 10:15 a.m. Family Prayer Service all at the church. Graveside Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Stanton Cemetery in Stanton, Nebraska.
Hazel "Maxine" Blezek was born January 21, 1910 in rural Stanton, Nebraska to Clarence E. and Mary Nancy (Purdy) Everson. She attended a country school near Stanton and high school in St. Charles, South Dakota where her father had a farm. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and English from Wayne State College. She taught school in District #83 south of Stanton and later in Wolbach, Nebraska. She was married to John W. Blezek on June 20, 1941 at her parents home south of Stanton. To this union two sons, John and Ronald were born. The couple lived in Fort Worth, Texas while John was stationed in the U.S. Army/Air Force during WWII. Following his discharge they moved back to Nebraska. Maxine and John taught in several schools in Nebraska until retiring in Sidney, Nebraska in 1971. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Sidney and Wayne State Alumni Association.
