Geraldine Hergott

Geraldine Ann (Wiedel) Hergott, age 86, of Columbus, Nebraska, departed this life on Thursday, April 9, 2015, at the Golden Living Center.
Geraldine (Gerry) was born in Hebron, NE, June 9, 1928, to John and Gertrude (Schmit) Wiedel. Upon graduating from Hebron High School in 1947, she worked at the Concordia Hospital in Kansas.
She married Donald Martin Hergott on Jan. 24, 1949, at Sacred Heart Parish, Hebron NE. They farmed near Alexandria, NE, where they raised nine children. She was a member of St. Marys Altar Society and taught CCD for many years. She enjoyed being Mom, decorating cakes, embroidering and quilting.
In 1985, she and Don moved to Mission, TX, and quickly became active members of St. Paul's Catholic Church for 25 years. In August 2010 they returned to Nebraska, settling in Columbus where they joined St. Isidore Catholic Church. There she became a member of the Christian Mothers and the Catholic Daughters Americas Court Little Flower #988. She enjoyed attending daily Mass.

She is survived by nine children: Lawrence (Bernice) Hergott of Columbus, NE, Donna (Stanley) Osterhoudt of Tecumseh, NE, Patricia Payvandi of Beatrice, NE, Allen (Minh) Hergott of San Antonio, TX, William (Susan) Hergott of Lincoln, NE, Gary (Kayla) Hergott of Las Vegas, NV, Betty Hergott of Beatrice, NE, Anthony (Laurie) Hergott of Columbus, NE, and Wayne (Dianne) Hergott of Lincoln, NE; two brothers, Eugene (Barbara) Wiedel of Hebron, NE, and Harry (Linda) Wiedel of Hebron, NE; sister-in-Law, Sharon Wiedel of Hastings, NE; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents, John and Gertrude Wiedel; her sister, Phyllis (Wiedel) Woods; and her brother, Robert Wiedel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for future charitable designations.
