Gerald "Wayne" Spelts of Columbus died Friday, August 27, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.
Gerald "Wayne" W. Spelts was born December 8, 1922 in Kennard, NE to George Allen and Gwynethe Carol (Troth) Spelts. He grew up in Shelton and graduated from Shelton High School in 1940. He entered the Army Air Corp where he spent 3 years at the University of Missouri-Columbia training to be an aircraft mechanic. On March 6, 1942 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Cash in Omaha. They lived in Shelton, NE, Biloxi, MS, Columbia, MO, and New Jersey during his service years. They also resided in St. Libory, North Platte, Gothenburg and in O'Neill where he was involved in the lumber business. Wayne also was an authorized Sears dealer in O'Neill for 15 years. They retired to Sun City, AZ. After his wife Elizabeth's death in November of 2008, he moved to Columbus where he resided at Crown Villa. Wayne was very proud of his vegetable gardens. He also enjoyed woodworking, golf, and playing pool. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a prior member of the Masonic Lodge in O'Neill.
