George Horne, age 64, of Columbus died Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday; September 25, 2004 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. The Rev. Tom Weisbecker will officiate. Visitation will be Friday 3-5 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home and after 6:00 p.m. at the Church. A vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Church. Visitation will continue Saturday morning 8-9:30 a.m. at the funeral home
George R. Horne was born August 21, 1940 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Robert and Kathryn (Graff) Horne. At an early age he moved with his family to Boone, Nebraska. His family later moved to Columbus. George graduated from Columbus High School in 1958. He served in the United States Navy. Upon his return to Columbus he worked at various locations. He married Doris Wemhoff July 29, 1967 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey, Nebraska. The couple lived in Columbus for 5 years before moving to Richland where they lived for 27 years. In March 2004 they moved into Columbus. For the past 25 years he has worked as a truck driver most recently for Cliff Viessman. In 2000 he retired. George was a member of St. Bonaventure Church. He enjoyed country western music having played in several local bands. He enjoyed camping, Cubs baseball, Nebraska football, playing cards with a local club for 26 years, woodworking and going to coffee at Sapp Brothers.
