Gary Sutton

Gary Sutton, age 84, died Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Prairie Village in Columbus surrounded by his family.

Memorial services are 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Columbus. The family will receive friends from 12:00 (noon) until the service time at the church. Interment in Roselawn Cemetery will be held at a later date.

Gary was born on February 20, 1942, to Delbert and Lela (Gray) Sutton in Smith Center, Kansas. He grew up and graduated high school in Smith Center. He met the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Sandra Bird. Following high school, he attended the University of Kansas where he received his education. Gary was ahead of the curve when it came to computer programing and data processing. He received special training and learned on the job to become a Data Processor. His career moved his family to Columbus, where he worked for First National Bank for over 30 years.

Gary enjoyed Husker Athletics, dirt track racing and coaching his children in Soccer. One of his favorite pastimes was cheering on his children, and in his later years, grandchildren and great grandchildren, in the multiple activities that they participated in over the years. Gary was known at these events from his booming voice that was often easy to pick out of a crowd of people. Most importantly, Gary enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Gary had a strong faith and was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Columbus, where he enjoyed regularly attending Sunday services.
