Frederick M. Liss "Fred", age 70, died Friday, June 21, 2024, at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2024, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Visitation is Wednesday from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. vigil service, all at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues Thursday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be made to the family for future designation.
Fred was born on January 13, 1954, to Joseph and Theodora (Swantek) Liss. He grew up in Duncan, Nebraska, where he attended Saint Stanislaus grade school and was the last graduating 8th grade class. He graduated high school from Scotus Central Catholic in 1972. For college, he attended Creighton and UNL. He worked for Gilmore and Associates for six years as a surveyor. In 1985, he started working for the Platte County Highway Department. He worked as the assistant highway superintendent for 18 years. From there he went on to become the Highway Supervisor for 13 years. In 2018, Fred was elected to the Platte County Board of Supervisors where he served one four-year term. Fred had a strong work ethic. He was extremely motivated and very detailed oriented on all projects he was involved in. Some of his accomplishments are Nebraska Association of County Engineers, Nebraska Association of County Officials, Highway Superintendents and Surveyors. He was also a member of the Columbus Rural Fire Department and was in the National Association of County Engineers. Fred and his wife, Shari, were married in 1989. He enjoyed the love of classic Mustangs. Fred and Shari have two classic Mustangs. He was an avid outdoorsman, deer hunter, and fisherman. Fred liked working and being outside. He enjoyed mowing his lawn and working in the yard along with planting flowers and gardening. He was very talented and could fix almost anything. Fred and his family were longtime members of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Above all else Fred loved his family dearly his wife, daughter, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, and his whole entire family.
