Frank J. Markytan entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Columbus Community Hospital surrounded by his family.

Frank was born January 15, 1923 in Howells, Nebraska to Dominik and Anna (Vach) Markytan. He graduated from Howells High School in 1940. Frank served in the U. S. Air Force from 1942 1945 in the South Pacific during WWII. He obtained the rank of Sargent and received the Bronze Star. On April 25, 1951 Frank was united in marriage to Elaine Busselman at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. To this union 3 daughters were born, Carol, Mary and Joyce. Frank worked at the Columbus Telegram for 41 years until retiring. He was an active member of St. Bonaventure Church, Nocturnal Adoration and the Knights of Columbus. Frank loved to be outside tending to his garden and taking care of his yard. After retirement Frank and Elaine took many trips coast to coast including a family cruise to Hawaii and Pearl Harbor in 2008. He was also an avid Husker Fan.

He is survived by:

Daughter: Carol (Herb) Strong of Council Bluffs, IA
Daughter: Mary (Dennis) Fisher of Greer, SC
Daughter: Joyce Steffensmeier of Columbus, NE
Grandchildren: Sarah (Kyle) Jenkins, Eric Epp, Emily (Jeremy) Easton, John Colton, and Amanda Fisher

He was preceded in death by:

Brothers: Laddie and Stanley Markytan
Sister: Elsie Lange
