Frank W. Held of Columbus died Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Columbus Community Hospital.
Frank W. Held was born March 16, 1919 in Columbus to Frank and Xaverius (Abts) Held, a great grandson of John Held who was one of the founders of the City of Columbus. He was a 1935 graduate of Fullerton High School and attended the University of Nebraska. Frank worked for A.S.C.S. before being drafted into the US Army In 1942. He served as a Captain in the Southwest Pacific Area Theatre of Operations during World War II. Upon relief from active duty, Frank served in the US Army Reserves where he attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. He retired from the military after 26 years of service. Frank worked for Cornhusker Public Power District for 33 years until his retirement in 1981. Frank was a permanent member of Hartman Post #84 American Legion where he had over 60 years of continuous membership. While a member of Hartman Post #84 he served as Post Commander and later as County Commander. He also served on the club board, Scholarship Committee, Americanism Committee, and was a Flags Committee member. Frank also served on the City of Columbus Board of Adjustment for several years. He was a member of the VFW and the Reserve Officer Association.
